Dental crowns are a modern-day answer to tooth decay, providing stability and protection when fillings don’t work. Dental crowns can be made from porcelain or metal alloys like gold or platinum depending on the needs of your mouth. Crowns usually require minimal care over time other than regular good oral hygiene habits because they cover up any structural damage that has been done to teeth caused by cavities.

Crowns are typically made of metals or porcelain but can also be ceramic; they require little to no special care other than regular good oral hygiene for the duration of their life span.

Pros & cons

Here is a quick guide to the pros and cons of multiple dental implants

Pros

Look and work just like real teeth, so you can smile with confidence

Multiple dental implants function just like real teeth, so you can show off your smile with confidence and eat what you like

More cost-effective than single dental implants

When looking to replace 3 or more missing teeth, multiple dental implants are a more cost-effective solution than single dental implants

Permanently fixed in your mouth (so you don't have to worry about losing them)

As the dental implants are fitted to your jawbone, you don't have to worry about misplacing or losing them

Prevent the bone loss which comes with dentures

Multiple dental implants preserve bone density and prevent any further bone loss that dentures can cause

Cons

Do require surgery (unlike dentures)

Multiple points of healing in the mouth

As you will be replacing 3 or more missing teeth, you'll need to be prepared to have

Dental Crown procedure

Consultation

At the consultation, your dentist will check if you can have the Dental Crown procedure. They’ll explain how it works and what alternatives you have. and you will be able to ask whatever questions you like. By the end of the consultation, you should be able to make an informed decision on whether or not you want to go ahead with the Dental Crown procedure.

Appointment

The length of your Dental Crown appointment will depend on exactly what needs to be done and how many implants are being place. The procedure will, however, require general anesthetic, so you may wish to leave the entire day free to recover.

Fitted implant

Your dentist will fit the implant screws into your jaw. These will then have an abutment fitted over them and finished with temporary teeth. Whilst the temporary teeth still look like real life, they are made from a much lighter material to place minimal pressure onto the jaw whilst healing.

Healing time

You should allow a few days for the initial swelling and bruising to fade. After that, it will take about 6 months for your mouth to heal completely. Once the healing process is complete, you will get your permanent teeth fitted onto the implants. If you look after them properly, you can enjoy your new teeth for many years.

Are Dental Crown right for me?

Dental Crown are perfect for

  • Safely replacing several missing teeth
  • Providing a cost-effective solution to replacing3 or more missing teeth
  • The most natural-looking option for replacement teeth
  • Preserving bone density within the jaw
  • Stopping the surrounding teeth from drifting into the gap left by missing teeth

Many patients are initially unsure as multiple dental implants require surgery, however the alternative is to opt for removable dentures as a non-surgical solution. Unfortunately, they neither look nor feel like real teeth. This means that the difference between your dentures and your real teeth could be very obvious, which is why opting for multiple dental implants is the preferred route for many.
